What's involved within an STD assessment for men?

My girlfriend suggested we both get checked past we become 'active' with respectively other. I got tested a few years ago, and it involved a swab - which almost made me screech. Is this still used?
Is there a standard array of test that clinics do for men's checkups for STD's?

The broad STDs are: syphilis--test is a blood draw; chlamydia test is beside the small calgon swab (in the urethra for men & the cervix for women) and gonorrhea (also a swab/culture) but separate from the chlamydia test. Someone should be capable of do this gently. AIDS is also a blood theory test. Most clinics are equiped to do this, but you could always christen ahead. It is good you are anyone so supportive and responsible.

I consider the swab IS the standard method, and clinics can perform an array of test from the swab. I don't know if they can do multiple tests from alike sample (1 swabbing).
I give attention to you should focus on alleviating any concerns the two of you have, but patently let your girl know what it will involve for you, since they seem to be to think every item we do is "no problem", and they have it sooo doomed to failure. ;-)
